Synopsis
The Portraits brings together six stories that expose how fascist governments try to silence people. The state persecutes those citizens suspected of having political and Maoist ties, organizing strikes or responding to state-sponsored violence. The logic of dictatorial political power prevails, turning the citizen into a victim of the system.
Director
Bijukumar Damodaran is an Indian doctor turned film director and screenwriter. His first film Saira was screened at the Cannes film festival in 2007. Bijukumar’s films, a total of 9, have won five Indian National Film Awards, four Indian Panorama Selections, thirteen Kerala State Film Awards, 30 international film awards and many selections from festivals around the world.
