Memoryland

Synopsis

The film narrates three stories: Send-off, Nether-world, and This-World. Death and its corresponding rituals run through these stories: a woman whose son insists on his cremation; the widow of a young worker who brings his ashes to the village of his ancestors and a desperate painter who loses her lover. The respective rituals try to ensure that the living and the dead can find peace. The changes in the way of understanding life after death in recent times have their replica in urban life and rural life in a country dominated by the consumer society.
