Synopsis

Along The Way is the moving story of two refugees who want to reach Europe. This film stems from a volunteer work that director De Jong did some years ago in the refugee camp of Moria, Lesbos (Greece). There she met the Afghan twins Nahid and Malihe. Their story moved her so much that she decided to make this film with their help, dealing with the experiences of the protagonists, Fatima and Nahra, from their departure from Afghanistan to Istanbul. Their dream is to go to Greece to become filmmakers. 

Director

Mijke De Jong (Rotterdam, 1959) is a Dutch film director, screenwriter and producer. She is known for films such as Bluebird (2004), Frailer (2014), Layla M. (2016) and God Only Knows (2019). The themes De Jong mainly addresses in her work are related to everyday life in society, from bullying, to belonging or death. She essentially portrays emotions that accompany these struggles.
