A failed copywriter with alcohol dependency problems crosses paths with a stranger on a special assignment, and together they embark on an unforgettable adventure around Shanghai.  During their journey, they learn about each other, about themselves and discover the city and life in it through different eyes. A personal and profound story about love, life, loss and the importance of human connection in a fast-paced world. Shanghai Story tells of two characters who despite being seemingly different from each other, manage to connect through their personal baggage and find a way to move on and move forward in a distant land.


Andrej Iliev is a Czechoslovakian director, writer and cameraman born in 1984. He has made a series of short films since he was nine years old after his best friend found an old 16mm camera under his bed. He studied Film and Television in London. In 2012, Andrej moved to Shanghai, where he works as a commercial director and cameraman. He has gone on to make short films and has won awards for directing, screenwriting and photography for himself in the thriller The Voiceman, the police spoof The Killing Game and Little Milo. Shanghai Story is his first feature film.
