SYNOPSIS

Joy lives in Manila with her six-year-old daughter Angel and her husband Dante, a petty criminal. As so many times in the past, Dante comes home drunk at night and brutally beats Joy. This time, Joy escapes with her daughter to go report him to the police station. She requests his arrest and imprisonment. But, things are not so easy. And before she achieves what she sets out to do, she has to endure an ordeal until justice is contested. The film shows the obstacles that a woman threatened by her husband encounters when she tries to defend herself and save her offspring.

DIRECTOR’S BIOGRAPHY

Raymund Ribay Gutierrez was born in Manila. He has directed the short films, Imago (2016) and Judgment (2018), both nominated for the Palme d’Or at Cannes; Imago also won the TIFF Short Cuts award for Best Short Film. Verdict (2019) is his first feature film.
