SYNOPSIS
12-year-old Candice is the only optimist in her family. Since her younger sister died, her mother has barely left the bedroom and her father has only been working. Equipped with an unlimited imagination, Candice is on a mission to hold the family together and bring joy back to her grieving parents. She is supported by her friend Douglas, who is convinced that he has fallen into this world from another dimension. Based on Barry Jonsberg’s children’s book “My Life as an Alphabet,” H is For Happiness embarks on a journey into a fairytale world that acclaims the beauty of life.
DIRECTOR’S BIOGRAPHY
John Sheedy is a multi-award nominated Australian director whose works have been featured across Australia. In 1998, Sheedy received his BA in Dramatic Arts from Melbourne’s National School of Dramatic Art before completing his Master’s in Dramatic Arts (Directing) in 2002. In August 2010, he became the Artistic Director of the Barking Gecko Theater Company, and in 2015 he made his last season for the company. Sheedy’s first short film, Mrs McCutcheon (2017), premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2017, winning the best Australian short film award. His first feature film H Is for Happiness (2019) received a Special Mention from the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film from the children’s jury.
