THE WITCH: PART 1 THE SUBVERSION

A young, blood spattered girl apparently fleeing a violent scene in a remote location is found and taken in by a kindly middle aged farmer and his wife. The girl has no memory and cannot remember her name, and the couple calls her Koo Ja-yoon. Ten years later, Ja-yoon is a bright young woman who participates in a TV talent show called Birth of a Star to earn money. However, as soon as she appears on TV, strange people approach her claiming to know her, but she doesn’t know them. That, coupled with the odd physical sensations she has been experiencing, Ja-yoon’s life is about to be turned upside down. The film has been presented at numerous national and international festivals, such as the London East Asia Film Festival 2019, Busan International Film Festival 2018, Hawaii International Film Festival 2018, Blue Dragon Film Awards 2018, Baeksang Art Awards 2019 and the Fantasia International Film Festival 2019

Park Hoon-jung is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. He first attracted notice for writing the screenplays for “I Saw the Devil” (2010) and “The Unjust” (2010). He made his debut as a director in 2011 with “The Showdown” and his second film, “New World” (2013), scored a critical and commercial success.
