Jin Feng lives in the mountainous region of the Shanxi province in Northern China. She has two children, with a third on the way. This new baby is finally a boy, but it makes her a target of the Chinese “one-child-policy”, which allows for only one child per woman. The consequence for her is either having an abortion or paying a fine to the Family Planning Commission. Despite her best efforts, Jin cannot raise the money to pay the 40,000 Yuan fine, an amount due on the day of the child’s birth. And so the family planning commission forces her to abort her unborn son, which traumatizes Jin severely and sends her into an emotional and mental tailspin. She tries to free herself with the help of Sukhavati-Buddhism. The followers of these particular Buddhist teachings hope to be reborn in Buddha’s “Pure Land”. The film was presented at the Hong Kong International Film Festival 2019 and the International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg 2018, and it received a special mention
