Her marriage with Anzai Shigeru has come to an unhappy end, Shimojo Fumiko returns to her family’s home with her two children. One day, Fumiko attends a poetry reading at Yamagami’s house, which is being held to celebrate the return to Japan of her husband. Soon thereafter, the news arrives that her divorce has become official, but with the stipulation that she must return her son to his father. But he suddenly dies. Fumiko forms a plan to secretly take back her child and move to Tokyo, but she is diagnosed with breast cancer and hospitalized. Mori had submitted to a poetry magazine Fumiko’s poems before his death, Yamagami discovers these were accepted for publication. She is shocked one day to see in the newspaper an article reporting that she does not have long to live. Still, she puts on a happy face and tries to act healthy.

Tanaka Kinuyo is considered one of the most promising young talents in the Vietnamese film industry of the last 10 years. In 2013 he made his first short film 16:30 which won several awards and participated in the Cannes Film Festival. With Rom, which is her first feature film, Tran Than Huy tries to represent the dynamics of lottery gambling, which, despite being illegal in Vietnam, are quite popular among middle-class families like the director himself, who in order to move up socially can gamble with their house, family and even their lives.
