After his house and all of his treasure are confiscated by the debt collector thanks to his brother-in-law’s debt, Abah is very determined to withstand all of this by staying temporarily in a house in a remote village in West Java. It is his childhood house, inherited by his father. But then he loses his case in the court, hence his family are threatened to live in poverty forever. He also has to face problems inside their own family which slowly shake the family’s principle: “the most valuable treasure is family”. The film was presented at the Cambodia International Film Festival 2018, the JAFF Indonesian Screen Awards 2018 and the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival 2019.

Yandy Laurens is one of the most talented emerging film directors in Indonesia. He won the Best Short Film Award at the Indonesian Film Festival 2012. “Cemara Family” is his first feature film as a director and it focuses on the cohesion of a family, portraying honesty as a challenge as well as a core value in keeping the family together.
