Synopsis
Ryota lives in his glorious past as a well – known and prize winning author. After divorcing, he spends all the money he wins as a private detective in races. For this reason, he cannot pay his son’s alimony. He tries to get into his son’s life, after his father’s death. An unexpected typhoon will make the family get together again and will spend the night at the grandmother’s house. This will be an opportunity to meet up again.
Director’s Biography
Hirokazu Kore-Eda was born in 1962 in Tokyo. After getting a degree in Literature at the University of Waseda, he started working at the TV Man Union; an important television producder, where he directed many documentaries which obtained international awards. His first feature film, “Maboroshi no hikari”, won the Golden Osella Award in the Venecian Festival, 1995. His second film, “ Wandafuru raifu” (After Life, 1999), was released in more than 30 countries. His third film, “Distance”, was selected for the Cannes Festival, 2001. In 2006 he wrote and directed “Hana”, his first period film, in which it explores de world of the samurais and rematch in the Edo period. In 2008, Hirokazu directed his first documentary in the form of feature film, “Daijobu de aruyo ni : Cocco owaranai tabi”, in which Hirokazu keeps track of Cocco, a singer in his tour.
