Synopsis
After running out of money while backpacking in a tiny, male-dominated town from Australia, two friends resort to a working holiday at the Royal Hotel. When the local’s behaviour starts crossing the line, the girls find themselves trapped in an unnerving situation that grows rapidly out of their control.
Director
Kitty Green (born 8 August 1984; Melbourne) is an Australian film director, screenwriter, editor and producer. Green produced, directed, wrote, and edited the 2019 film The Assistant. Her work often portrays heavy topics such as unsolved murders and politics. Soon after graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts, Green went on to work at ABC on Art Nation and Artscape where she shot, edited, and produced documentary content for national broadcast. Later, she worked on Van Diemen’s Land (2009) in the camera and electrical department. Her last project was the feature film The Royal Hotel (2023), which has been nominated for Best Film at the San Sebastián International Film Festival 2023 and the London Film Festival 2023.
