INTERNATIONAL IRANIAN FILM CONGRESS « MYSTICISM IN IRANIAN cinema: A LOOK AT THE WORKS OF MAJID MAJIDI»

The Complutense University of Madrid, the Cultural Council of the Iranian Embassy, the Farabi Film Foundation and Casa Asia join in the celebration of the 6th International Congress on Iranian cinema, «Mysticism in Iranian cinema: a look at the works of Majid Majid », which will be held from February 23rd to February 25th in a webinar format. Dr. Francisco García García is the director of this congress, coordinated by Dr. Zara Razi.

This webinar will be attended by director Majid Majidi (Tehran, 1959), from whom three films will be screened online, given the interest that his work has aroused for years as the film industry in this country. This director began his career as a theatre actor, after passing through the Tehran Institute of Dramatic Art. Later, after his time on television, he starred in films by directors such as Mohsen Makhmalbaf, although he tried to combine his profession with directing several short films. Majid Majidi produced Baduk, his first feature film, in 1991, which he presented at the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 1992. Since then, he has developed a committed career with films such as The Father (1995), which was screened at the San Sebastián Film Festival, followed by Children of Heaven (1997) and The Color of Paradise (1999), which won the awards from the Official Section Jury and the Young Jury at the Gijón International Film Festival, and Baran (2001). That same year, he shot the documentary Barefoot to Herat (2001) about the Afghan refugee camps. In 2005, he released his sixth feature film, The Weeping Tree, followed by The Song of Sparrows (2008), Berlinale Silver Bear. In 2015, he performed Muhammad and in 2020, The Sun. He has been in the scripts for all of his films. For this webinar, The Color of Paradise, The Weeping Tree and Baran have come together and can be seen online.
