Film series: “The journey to Iran through cinema”
Of the six titles that Casa Asia programmed for October 3, 2020, to be screened before the Asian Film Festival Barcelona | AFFBCN, two films remained, whose projection we are going to resume starting on January 9, 2021. The new generations of Iranian filmmakers demonstrate a great ability to construct the cinematographic stories that come to us from their country. Stories that bring us closer to culture from within and that not only do they provide information but also data that we can transform into knowledge.
For this reason, Iranian cinema has occupied a preferential place in both of our annual programming and in the Asian Film Festival Barcelona for years, while taking into account those cinematographiques that we host annually from other geographies of the Asian continent. On this occasion, we begin the year with the screening of these two films: First Autograph for Rana (2018), and Pastarioni (2019).

First Autograph for Rana | Dir: Ali Zhakan | 2018 | 90’ | Drama | VOSE
Jahangir Golstaneh is a novelist who has been married for several years to Rana and they have a seven-year-old son. Jahangir is the author of several novels, although he has only been able to publish one of them. His only source of income is writing and he does not want to do anything else to get out of his precariousness. This decision is the cause of the problems and obstacles that arise throughout his life.
Director Ali Zhakan was born in Tehran in 1950 and began his career as an actor. He made his first feature film The Mare in 1986 and has been acclaimed at international festivals such as Venice and Karlovy Vary, among others.

Pastarioni | Dir: Soheil Movafagh | 2019 | 97’ | Drama | VOSE
When Houshang returns home, after several years out of the country, he discovers that his father’s restaurant has closed. However, he is not willing to give up. This young director addresses the return of those who left Iran at a certain point in their lives and return to their country of origin for different reasons to recover what they left behind, which they do not always succeed.
Director Soheil Movafagh was born in 1980 and began his acting career at age 13, and in 2001 he began working as a producer and director. Since 2005 he has collaborated with Irib TV as a producer, director and actor. His debut film was Chocolate (2018), which participated in some children’s festivals such as the Canada Kids Film Festival & Golden Elephant Film Festival.
