Synopsis

Phoon and Yuke, who are a couple since 13 years ago, raised their adoptive son, Butr, since he was a baby in an environment full of legal and social challenges. When Butr celebrates Mother’s Day in school, his classmates make fun of him because he has two fathers and then the boy asks about his mother. The tension that Phoon and Yuke are living threaten their relationship, when they have to face the director of a child protective agency, Rattiya, who does not seem very comprehensive. Her suggestions and inquires about Butr’s environment add even more pressure on the couple and they do not have other choice than choosing what seems better for their son, even though it break their hearts. In a country, Thailand, where the gay marriage is not recognized and where the traditional believes about families still reign, Fathers highlights as an affectionate portrait of paternity between men and it makes an honest defence of the rainbow families.

Director’s Biography

Palatpol Mingpornpichitis a 26-year-old Thai film director. He studied at the Faculty of Communication Arts at the University of Bangkok. Since he was a child he dreamed of becoming a great director. However, it is not so easy to have an opportunity in the Thai film industry. Seeing that his best friends who were specialized in cinema did not have the opportunity to create their own films, as they wanted, he changed his mind. However, every time he watched a movie in the cinema, he felt like he was seeing other people’s dreams. And that really gave him the strength to fight for his own one and reuse the script he once tried to develop. When the script was finished, called “Present Perfect Continuous Time,” he sent it to many companies requesting a sponsorship. Finally, Honda Thailand and Bank of Ayudhya PCL gave him an opportunity. The following year (2014), Palatpol was nominated for Best New Filmmaker with the prize of the Assembly of the Critics of Bangkok. Currently, he works as Assistant Vice President at Marcom Communications, GMM Grammy PCL.
