Synopsis
The young lady Qiao falls deeply in love with Bin, the leader of a local mafia. The main couple lives on the bounds of society and survives challenging daily the established order. Qiao witnesses how Bin is attacked by a rival band and shoots against them in order to defend him. Because of not betraying him, Qiao is sentenced to spend five years in prison. After fulfilling her judgement, Qiao looks for Bin but he rejects to accept her in his life again. This is a violent and heartbreaking love story, which unfolds over the course of more than fifteen years, between 2001 and 2017. This melodrama extends this epic narrative characteristic of his cinema, and his records of the quick transformation of the actual China.
Director’s Biography
Jia Zhang-Ke (1970) is a Chinese film director. He graduated in the Cinema Academy of Beijing and debuted as a producer with the film “Xiao Wu” in 1998. In 2006, he directed “Still life” which won the Gold Lion in the Festival of Venice, and in 2013, he won the Palme d’Or Award for Best Script at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2015, he was awarded with the “Carroza de Oro” at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival where he presented “Mountains May Depart” to contest. Currently, Zhang-Ke is very involved with the new generation of Chinese filmmakers.
