Synopsis
At a time of political instability, Iman, an investigating judge in Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, mysteriously loses his gun. What could be an everyday occurrence ends up unleashing fear and paranoia in the judge, who ends up suspecting even his own family: his wife Najmeh and daughters Rezvan and Sana. He imposes drastic measures at home, causing tensions to rise. Step by step, social norms and rules of family life are suspended.
Director
Mohammad Rasoulof (1972, Shiraz, Iran) is a prominent independent filmmaker currently residing in Europe in exile. His film career includes several acclaimed films such as The Twilight (2002), Iron Island (2005), Goodbye (2011), Manuscripts Don’t Burn (2013), A Man of Integrity (2017) and There Is No Evil (2020), with which he won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. Rasoulof has faced multiple arrests and confiscation of his passport due to the critical nature of his films towards the Iranian government. In May 2024, after his film The Seed of the Sacred Fig was selected for the Cannes Film Festival, he was sentenced by the Islamic Republic of Iran to 8 years in prison, lashes and a fine, and subsequently took refuge in Germany.
