Going back from Europe to the village with his wife, Cornelis is confronted by workers’ protests and the complexities and absurdities of colonialism. Mother and son, albeit from different perspectives, believe they are empowered to control their subordinates. However, a turn of events occurs when Jan’s is revealed, revealing that he has left the family estate to his concubine, Siti. Ena Sendijarević with the aim of distancing it from the conventional conception of the genre, to insist on the colonial dynamics and their transcendence.
