Synopsis
Hirayama seems utterly content with his simple life as a toilet cleaner in Tokyo. Outside of his very structured everyday routine he enjoys his passion for music and for books. And he loves trees and takes photos of them. After his cool niece (Arisa Nakano) comes to stay, he is then confronted by this girl’s mother, his sister, who tells him their father’s dementia is still a problem and seems stunned by what Hirayama does for a living these days. This series of unexpected encounters gradually reveal more of his past.

Ernst Wilhelm “Wim” Wenders (born 14 August 1945; Düsseldorf) is a German filmmaker, producer, playwright, author, and photographer. He is a major figure in New German Cinema. Among many honours, he has received three nominations for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, won the BAFTA Award for Best Direction for his narrative drama Paris, Texas (1984), which also won the Palme d’Or at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival. Many of his subsequent films have also been recognized in Cannes, including Wings of Desire (1987), for which he won the Best Director Award at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival. Moreover, his last feature film, Perfect Days, was selected as the Japanese entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
