Synopsis
Girls Will Be Girls (2024) follows Mira (Preeti Panigrahi), a 16-year-old who explores her path to maturity and desire uninhibited. However, her sentimental upbringing finds an enemy in her young mother (Kani Kusruti) and tradition. Director Shuchi Talati avoids predictable narrative paths, choosing to investigate how repression manifests itself, from school dynamics to the intimacy of the home, and shows how this repression stifles women, compared with the freedom with which men perform similar actions.

Shuchi Talati is an acclaimed film director and screenwriter known for her innovative approach to gender issues. Her first feature film, Girls Will Be Girls (2024), garnered critical acclaim and awards at Sundance. Talati tackles female sexual awakening without stigma, cementing herself as a new voice in contemporary cinema.
