Synopsis

Based on true events, The Gift tells the tragic story of Arno, a seven-year-old girl that lives in a remote pastureland of Central Asia who is led to believe that the mole on her lip is a gift from God that will make all her wishes come true. Arno’s father is a horse farmer whose strongest wish is to have a son, a desire rooted in the old family tradition that favors sons over daughters, and Arno, who loves her father deeply and suffers from seeing him unhappy that his family lineage may not continue, offers the unconventional solution of becoming the boy her father never had. However, he refuses this absurd suggestion, and Arno’s doubt about his love for her threatens to break their spiritual relationship. Meanwhile, the world of this family and their nomadic community is about to be destroyed by the encroaching of modern civilization.
