Synopsis
This is a story about how family can impact the education of a young woman. Elaine grew up in the 80’s poverty, and together with her best friend Ying they enter the Hong Kong entertainment industry to change their fate. In the golden era of Hong Kong cinema, Ying becomes a popular erotic star while Elaine struggles between her identity and her job as an actor. When Hong Kong cinema’s glory fades a decade later, the two women end up on diverging paths due to their respective life choices.
Director
Tracy Choi Ian Sin was born in Macau in 1988 and studied filmmaking at Taiwan’s Shih Hsin University. In 2012, her documentary short I’m Here won the Jury Award at the Macau International Film and Video Festival and was subsequently screened at other festivals including the 2013 Paris International Lesbian and Feminist Film Festival. Her film Sisterhood won the Macao Audience Choice Award at the 2016 Macau International Film Festival & Awards. The script starts with his experiences in Macau and his testimony about the city’s rapid changes over the past decade. Among his works there are the short films Moonbow (2010) and Sometimes Naïve (2013), as well as the documentary Farming on the Wasteland (2014).
