Synopsis
The film is set in the Philippines during the last days of the Marcos dictatorship, during the People Power Revolution that sent dictator Ferdinand Marcos fleeing into exile in Hawaii. It narrates the story of a family struggling with economic hardships and personal tragedy, and the characters’ involvement in the civil disobedience campaign to protest election fraud during the 1986 Snap Elections.
Director
Multi-awarded Filipino director JOEL C. LAMANGAN studied film and theater at schools in the Philippines and abroad. He acted and directed for stage and television, then took screen roles, before opting for film direction, making his debut in 1991 with Darna. Among his notable films are The Flor Contemplacion Story (1995) which won the Golden Pyramid award at 1995 Cairo International Film Festival, Pusong Mamon (1998), Deathrow (2000), Hubog (2001), Huling Birhen sa Lupa (2003), Blue Moon (2006) and Deadline (2011). In 2014, his entry HUSTISYA won the Netpac Awards in the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. It was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival and competed in Warsaw and Nantes. Rainbow’s Sunset (2018) won the Metro Manila Film Festival Best Picture award and a Special Jury Award at the 2019 Houston International Film Festival.
