Synopsis
With the Hunza Valley as a backdrop, a young primary school student fights for her right ot education with the tools at her disposal. A group of paramilitaries burst into de classroom and abruptly remove the teacher. Yasmeen loses her homework and decides to go in search of her teacher to get it back. But on this unexpected journey through neighbouring towns and villages, she finds help but also encounters numerous obstacles.
Director
Amman Abbasi is a Pakistani-American filmmaker and musician. His debut feature film, Dayveon (2017), was selected for both Sundance and Berlinale festivals and received two Film Independent Spirit Award nominations. Notably recognized as a film composer for Hollywood productions, particularly in the horror genre, Abbasi composed the score for The Exorcist: Believer (2023), a direct sequel to William Friedkin’s horror classic. Aside from the horror genre, his work in documentary has garnered him a Peabody Award and an Emmy. His second feature is Yasmeen’s Element (2024).
