Synopsis
Big city detective Davaa is summoned to the Mongolian hinterlands because of a most unusual hostage situation. When he arrives, he finds himself surrounded by local police and officials who mock the situation and seem bizarrely frivolous in their duty to the hostages being ransomed for 1 billion Mongolian tugrik a person. This Ransom is an oddly precise sum related to a travesty of justice that tragically unfolds.
Director
Baatar Batsukh is a Mongolian filmmaker who has worked as a cinematographer on 21 films over the past 10 year. His innovative shots, lighting, and exciting execution in each film, are a recognized brand in Mongolian cinema. His work in The Steed (2019), Mongolia’s official Oscar selection in 2019, also garnered his official recognition from the American Society of Cinematographers. His directorial debut, Aberrance (2022), had its European premiere at the Oldenburg International Film Festival. His latest film, Travesty (2024), was featured in the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) 2025.
