Synopsis

Watanabe Gisuke, a retired French literature professor, lives alone in a traditional Japanese house, facing old age. After his wife’s death, he follows a strict daily routine instead of succumbing to inactivity and isolation. He writes articles, gives lectures, and interacts with his neighbors. But darker currents soon emerge, especially when an encrypted message appears on his computer warning that “the enemy comes from the north.” Without understanding its meaning, Gisuke’s orderly reality begins to change slowly.
