Synopsis
Two middle-class parents struggle in finding a school that admits their son. The five-year-old son doesn’t speak at interviews and oral tests held at grade one enrolment, so he is always denied entry. The exhausting process takes a toll on the parents’ marriage and leads to a temporary separation. The boy’s father, who works for the Forest Department, decides not to send his child to school. He takes the boy to his work site and educates him himself. Determined to change the entire education system that denies all children a level playing field, he hatches a crazy plan that he thinks will get the attention of the Minister of Education.
Director
Shyam Fernando is a director, writer and actor known for Dirty, Yellow, Darkness (2015), Ponniyin Selvan: Part One (2022) and his latest film, Teach Me (2023), which was selected for the 22nd Third Eye Asian Film Festival.
