Synopsis

In a polyandrous village in the Nepalese Himalayas, where a woman can marry multiple husbands, Pema, a newlywed and pregnant woman, struggles to adapt to her new life. But her first husband, Tashi, disappears on the trade route to Lhasa. Accompanied by her other de facto husband, the monk Karma, she embarks on a journey into the wild to find him, which becomes a quest for self-discovery and liberation.

Director

Min Bahadur Bham is a Nepalese filmmaker. He holds a master’s degree in Buddhist Philosophy and Political Science while pursuing a PhD in Anthropology. His short Bansulli (2012) was Nepal’s first entry to the Venice IFF and was followed by his debut feature Kalo Pothi (2015), which won the FEDEORA Best Film Award at Venice Critics Week and became Nepal’s official Oscar entry. Acknowledged for nurturing emerging talent, his productions have graced the festivals like Venice, Berlinale, Rotterdam and Busan. His second feature, Shambhala (2024), was Nepal’s first film in the Berlinale Competition section and was featured in the Locarno Film Festival 2024.
