Synopsis
In a post-apocalyptic future, a woman emerges from brain surgery and finds herself in a semi-conscious state, the world around her laid to waste. She comes upon the motionless body of an android and decides to tell it the history of China. Slowly, with each passing night, the robot’s senses are restored. When her stories arrive at the present, she faces a dilemma: should she return to the real world, or should she follow her heart and remain with this machine?
Director
Bi Gan is an acclaimed Chinese filmmaker, screenwriter, and poet. A graduate of the Communication University of Hangzhou, Bi is considered one of the most innovative voices in contemporary Chinese cinema. Bi gained international recognition with his debut feature, Kaili Blues (2015), which won the Best Emerging Director award at Locarno. His second film, Long Day’s Journey Into Night (2018), further established his signature style, incorporating dream logic, long takes, and meditative pacing. In 2025, he premiered his third feature, Resurrection, at the Cannes Film Festival, continuing his exploration of memory, time, and cinematic language.
