Synopsis
Yong is a long-retired soldier who lives out his days in a bucolic village in Thailand. There he raises his granddaughter, Xiang, an 11-year-old girl who shows tremendous promise as a student. With them is their loyal dog, Rambo. Yong cultivates gorgeous roses, something that soothes his PTSD, and dreams of building a home in the canopy of an enormous tree in his front yard. When a worldly young teacher sees potential in Xiang, Yong is forced to grapple with letting go and doing what’s best for Xiang. This film examines the tender and bittersweet bond between a grandfather and granddaughter.
Director
Sivaroj Kongsakul (1980) began his career as an assistant director for Pen-ek Raranaruang, Wisit Sasanatieng and Aditya Assarat on many of their short films, television commercials and music videos. He directed many short films until he made his feature debut with Eternity (2011), winner of the Tiger Award at Rotterdam Festival. Regretfully at Dawn (2024), his second feature film, was selected for the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2024, the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival 2024, the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) 2024 and the San Diego Asian Film Festival (SDAFF) 2024.
