Synopsis

In Malaysia, the mere existence of a “baby hatch” or newborn center, where mothers can anonymously leave a baby through a hatch, is a socially condemned taboo and seen as an indicator of moral decay, even punishable by God. Staff who run a “baby hatch” in Kuala Lumpur must confront a case involving a minor. Siew Man arrives at the facility intending to have an abortion. Lai Sum, one of the employees, sets out to help her, but her intervention, though well-meaning, cannot prevent conflict with the dominant theocratic and patriarchal forces.
