Synopsis

The main character of the film, Magtymguly Fragi, is a historical figure — a great Turkmen poet and thinker who lived and created in the mid-18th century. The film portrays the years the great poet spent on Uzbek soil, in particular his studies at the Kukeldash Madrasa in Bukhara and the Shergazi Khan Madrasa in Khiva, as well as the most significant events of his life. Despite his youth, Magtymguly became renowned through his poetry not only among the Turkmen people but also among the Uzbeks. The film highlights Magtymguly’s attitude toward life and people, his high moral character, inner experiences, suffering and pain, as well as his aspiration to deeply study both religious and secular sciences. It also reveals his friendliness, his striving for the unity of his people, and his immense love for his homeland.

The film was produced to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great poet Magtymguly Fragi through the joint efforts of filmmakers from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
