Synopsis
Mi-Thet, a young Burmese woman, moves to Yangon to work in a textile factory to support her family. There, she suffers work abuse and goes months without being paid. When factory conditions deteriorate a strike organized by her colleagues surfaces. Mi-Thet hesitates, caught between family obligations and the risks of resistance. By learning about the recent history of her country, she decides to act.
Director
The Maw Naing (1971) is a director, poet and artist who lives and works in Myanmar. He studied filmmaking at the Yangon Film School and at FAMU in Prague. His debut feature-length film, The Monk (2014), had its premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, making him the first filmmaker from Myanmar in forty-five years to screen a feature film at an international film festival. His latest film, MA Cry for Silence (2024) premiered at the 29th Busan International Film Festival 2024, the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival 2024 and the 19th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival 2024 and the Göteborg Film Festival 2025.
