Synopsis
Tie Mei, a stubborn and independent single mother, and her daughter Moli settle into their new home in Shanghai, where they become friends with their neighbour Xiao Ye. Together, the three women navigate life, relationships, and social expectations in a moving exploration of what it means to be a woman in modern China. Everyday scenes of the move and the appearance of various figures surrounding the protagonist shed light on the urban life of younger generations living in the big cities of a country that is constantly changing.
Director
Shao Yihui (1992) graduated from the screenwriting faculty of the Beijing Film Academy. She graduated from the Beijing Film Academy’s Department of Literature and Drama in 2019. Her screenplay, Dream Diver, won the award for Best Animated Screenplay at the 9th Golden Words Awards of the Beijing Film Academy. Her first film as writer and director, B for Busy (also known as Myth of Love, 2022), won numerous awards, like the Golden Rooster Awards ofr Best Script. Her last feature film, Her Story (2024), has recieved a huge critical acclaim, receiving multiple nominations and awards like the Golden Mulberry Audience Award at the 27th Far East Film Festival (FEFF) 2025.
