Synopsis
Wei Fei, a screenwriter who has been working in Beijing, has always dreamed of becoming a pure literary writer, but he has been drifting along with the current due to his livelihood and has no heart to focus on his creation. He spends his days drinking until his father, Lao Wei, unexpectedly arrives to Beijing from their village carrying pottery discovered beneath his demolished home—possibly a valuable artifact. While Lao Wei urges Wei Fei to investigate the object’s worth, he learns his supposedly successful son may not be nearing his big break after all. Perhaps both father and son share equal gullibility about fortune and fame.
Director
Lei Xu made his feature film debut with Summer Detective (2018), which won the screenplay award at the 2018 FIRST Int’l Film Festival. In 2022, he directed the short film The Great Director starring two of China’s most famous directors: Ning Hao, renowned for commercial cinema, and Jia Zhangke, celebrated for his art-house films. In 2024, he co-directed the comedy Hutong Cowboy with Ning Hao. His sophomore feature, Green Wave (2024), premiered at the 2024 Pingyao International Film Festival, winning the Best Actor and Jury Awards.
