Synopsis
When Tam, a hardworking staff member at a wedding venue, discovers her husband’s affair on live TV, her life begins to unravel. As she grapples with the humiliation of neighbourly gossip and mourns the good old days, her daughter Ha grows distant, dreaming of moving to Europe. Instead of confronting him, the woman decides to voodoo her husband back into love, but instead invites a mysterious presence known as the House Spirit into her home, causing an unexpected butterfly effect.
Director
Dương Diệu Linh is a Vietnamese filmmaker. With a special interest in the unconventional depiction of sad, angsty and naggy middle-aged women, she is known for using magical realism elements deeply rooted in Southeast Asian mythology and superstitions. Her short films have been competing at prestigious film festivals around the world, such as the Berlinale or the Locarno Summer Academy. Her debut feature, Dont’ Cry, Butterfly (2024), participated in the Locarno Open Doors Hub, was featured in the Jodja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival 2025, the Singapur International Film Festival (SGIFF) 2024 and was an Official Selection of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2024.
