Synopsis

In the early 1990s, a small-town checkpoint officer, Yao Sichen, becomes entangled in a missing truck case due to a canceled fine. To clear up the case, he travels to the remote Maniao River Village, where he investigates a local restaurant –where travelers check in but don’t check out. There, he meets the truck driver Yang Zhaowei and his daughter Yang Ge, among other characters. As the restaurant’s grisly business thrives and suspicion tightens around him, a simple act of leniency spirals into a nightmare where paperwork meets bloodwork. In the end, he ultimately clears up a string of murder-for-profit crimes.
