Synopsis
Sonia is a 12-year-old girl with albinism. She comes from a poor family from a small village near Bengaluru. Sonia comes from a poor family from a small village near Bengaluru. Her alcoholic father almost disdains her for what she is, and her mother, although well intentioned, is helpless. At the cusp of high school, Sonia is admitted to a new school in the city, but her new classmates are discriminatory and hostile towards her, and her teachers are apathetic. The film explores her transformation from a shy, self-pitying teenager to a mature young woman who learns to live in peace with herself and her surroundings, in a world that often marginalizes her existence.
Director
Manohara K is a filmmaker from India who started his artistic journey as a child actor. He received the National Best Child Actor Award in 2017 for his performance in Railway Children (2016). He made his directorial debut by adapting award-winning novelist Sonia S’s autobiographical work in Bird of a Different Feather (2024). The critically acclaimed film was nominated to the Golden Goblet Awards – Asian New Talent section in the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF).
