Synopsis
Li Mingliang is a train driver in a quiet industrial town. His monotonous life is shadowed by his family’s past: his father’s mysterious disappearance and his own job, secured through his mother’s connections. Li suffers from intensifying migraines, particularly triggered when a reunion with school friends unearths distressing childhood memories. These recollections revolve around Ziqu, a female classmate who tragically died during an outing by the local river. As past, present, and adolescent fantasy intertwine, Li is forced to confront his role in the past events to truly move forward.
Director
Charles Hu (1997) is a Chinese director and screenwriter who graduated from the Communication University of Zhejiang in 2019, majoring in drama and film directing. He has directed several short films such as River Straying (2019), screened at the Beijing International Short Film Festival, and A Tiger At Large (2022). As the River Goes By (2024), his feature length directorial debut, as part of the New Currents Section at the 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2025.
