Synopsis
Approaching her 30th birthday, Alex faces a series of personal setbacks—emotional heartbreak, career burnout, and a deep sense of identity and life crisis. In an attempt to escape the overwhelming anxiety of city life, she decides to travel with her best friend to the remote South Australian town of Andamooka to mark her birthday, embarking on a journey of self-healing and inner exploration. Amid the vast and rugged landscape of the Australian outback, Alex confronts her inner confusion and vulnerability alone. Through encounters with strangers and connections with the indigenous cultures, she gradually regains a deeper understanding of herself and a renewed sense of strength.
Director
Mara Jean Quinn is an Australian actor, filmmaker and artist. She has been acting in theatre since 1999 and in film since 2006. Mara has worked across the industry in writing, producing, directing, assistant in wardrobe, and her training has been in both Brisbane and Sydney. Her filmography includes Desert Metal Dreaming (2021), which she co-directed, wrote, and produced; The Tingle Test (2019), which she co-wrote, executive produced, and starred as Imogen. The film premiered at CinefestOz and was screened at several acclaimed festivals. Her solo directorial debut came with Andamooka (2024), which was screened at the Queensland Premiere of the Brisbane International Film Festival 2024 and in the Official Selection of CinefestOZ 2024.
