CALL FOR APPLICATIONS YOUNG JURY AFFBCN 2024
The Asian Film Festival Barcelona (AFFBCN) is an annual event that showcases more than one hundred films from the Asian continent. Its programming includes all the countries from Central Asia to the Asia-Pacific region with a significant film industry and production, contributing to the definition of what we call Asian cinema. This cinema belongs to a part of the world where heterogeneity prevails, and whose cultural identity defies any form of coloniality, regardless of its origin. Asian cinema refers to a vast geography that, for this festival, gathers the production of more than twenty countries. These include Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Korea, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. The history and culture of some of these countries were once denied by the great colonial empires, but today their film production competes on an international level, gaining screen presence and, in many cases, surpassing former hegemonies.
As in previous editions, AFFBCN continues to promote the most representative Asian cinema, with the aim of consolidating a festival that seeks to showcase a way of making films and a diversity that directly impacts us in a global scenario, where migrations and diasporas continually challenge us. These dynamics demand the recognition of otherness, that which we are connected to in a mutual dependency and constantly questioning our own hegemony.
