Her first contact with the world of cinema was acting in the Iranian film <strong><em>Daughters of the Sun<\/em><\/strong>, directed by Maryam Shahriar. She was the first Afghan girl to work in Iranian cinema, as well as the first female director of Afghan Film Organisation, and the first (and only) woman in Afghanistan to hold a PhD in film and directing. Her films focus on Afghan women, and in them she not only speaks about the discrimination they face, but also applauds their strength.
