Synopsis

A Cantonese girl resorts to blackmailing her father’s mistress as a means to raise funds for her boyfriend’s film project, igniting a clandestine battle against her own mother. In this tale of a millennial woman’s struggle with a modern-day Oedipus complex, secrets and tensions unravel.

Director

Hoby Zhang, a former press photographer for Southern Metropolis Daily, has garnered recognition for his works. His contributions have earned nominations at festivals, including the 4th Chinese Independent Film Festival and the 11th Beijing Independent Film Festival. His works have also been selected at the 5th Chinese Visual Festival in London. His short film Distracted won the Best Actor Award at the 3rd Chongqing Youth Film Festival. Within a Budding Grove is his first feature film and received the WIP Excellent Production Project Award at the 12th Beijing International Film Festival.
