Synopsis
Premiering at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (2022), The Narrow Road introduces Chak, a city cleaner, and Candy, a young single mother, who forge an unusual bond. Directed by Lam Sum, the film paints a vivid portrait of the lives of low-paid workers in Hong Kong, subtly capturing the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which hit before filming began. Together, Chak, Candy and her daughter band together to face the adversities they encounter along the way, revealing the strength and solidarity that can emerge from the most difficult of circumstances.
Director
Lam Sum (1985), studied at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he majored in Film and Television. As a filmmaker he has done Hand Rolled Cigarette (2020), May You Stay Forever Young (2021), which already were well-received in various film festivals. His latest work, The Narrow Road (2022), is set in Hong Kong that reflects on social issues and the media amidst the COVID-19 pandemic
