Synopsis

Two lifelong friends reunite in order to reconnect and catch up. As they move through their conversation, memories of the past and accomplishments of the present intertwine, ranging from family and their careers to failed dreams and social changes. However, as the dialogue becomes more candid, the trust between the two begins to fade, especially when the subject turns to Amy, a former love of theirs. The atmosphere becomes charged with suspicion and one of them might be recording the conversation. Soon, the meeting takes a dark turn, dominated by blackmail, violence and coercion, putting everything that has been said into play. This adaptation of Richard Linklater’s groundbreaking classic updates the story more than 20 years after the award-winning 2001 film, moving the setting from the United States to Hong Kong. In an environment where the #MeToo movement has yet to be fully explored in the audiovisual industry, Tape (2023) promises to leave no one indifferent.
