Synopsis

In suburban Melbourne, 17-year-old Leo hides a secret he’s afraid to confront. As he deals with his inner turmoil, he finds himself unexpectedly drawn to his best friend, Boof. Everything changes after a high school reunion, when rumours about his sexuality begin to circulate. Despite fears of rejection from those closest to him, Leo must confront the uncertainties of love and navigate the uncertain waters of personal acceptance.

Director

Born and raised in the Southeastern suburbs of Naarm/Melbourne, Gabriel Carrubba is a writer, director and producer. At the age of 17, Gabriel left school to pursue a career in acting at the Film & Television Studio International. A few years later, Gabriel graduated from the arts school JMC Academy. His directorial debut feature film Sunflower was selected by Queer Screen to take part in the Marché du film program in 2023. Shortly after, Sunflower world premiered at the Sydney Film Festival and has since been selected for several Australian film festivals, including the Melbourne International Film Festival and the Adelaide Film Festival.
