Synopsis
This documentary brings the viewer closer to the figure of Israel Adesanya, the New Zealand MMA fighter of Nigerian origin. It explores masculinity, bullying and even the healing power of dance through the experiences of the man known as “The Last Stylebender”. Through intimate footage and interviews with friends, family and coaches, the film offers an in-depth look at his childhood, his roots in Nigeria and New Zealand, and his evolution as one of the sport’s most innovative and dominant athletes.
Director
Zoe McIntosh is a film director with a long professional career. International recognition came to her with her short film The world in your window (2017), which was nominated for an Oscar. She has also directed the shooting of several advertising campaigns for brands of international relevance. Her most recent success has come with Stylebender (2023), the documentary about a UFC fighter that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2023 and was nominated for Best Documentary and Best Direction.
