Synopsis
Sleep With Your Eyes Open (2024) offers a subtle approach to the perishable. Kai arrives from Taiwan to a heartbroken Brazilian coastal town for a vacation. While searching for Fu Ang, Kai discovers the story of Xiaoxin and a group of Chinese workers in an elegant skyscraper, a story in which she finds herself strangely mirrored. In this comedy of misunderstandings, the main characters, played by both novice and professional actors, come and go unexpectedly.
Director
Nele Wohlatz (Hannover, 1982) is a German filmmaker who has built an outstanding career of Chinese origin. She studied scenography and philosophy at the University of Applied Arts in Karlsruhe and later moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she lived for 12 years. There, he furthered his training in filmmaking at the Torcuato Di Tella University. Her latest work Sleep With Your Eyes Open (2024), was awarded at the Berlin International Film Festival (2024). She is also known for The Perfect Backpack (2014) and The Perfect Future (2016), which won Best First Film at the Locarno Film Festival.
