Synopsis
She Sat There Like All Ordinary Ones (2024) is a portrait of the adolescent and always innocent Zhuang, who accidentally takes the blame for stealing a small gun to cover up for Meng, his rebellious classmate. Just when he thought he had gotten her to accept him, she turns her back on him. Faced with such negligence, confused but determined to persevere in his attempt, Zhuang decides to join Meng’s athletic team, jeopardizing his studies. The film focuses on the protagonist’s perception of himself and the changes that occur at this stage of his life.
Director
Filmmaker and photographer Youjia Qu (China, 1990) graduated from the Beijing Film Academy and the Rhode Island School of Design. His first short film Meijing (2017) won several awards, including the Night Award at Signes de Nuit, Best Fiction Film at the Chongqing Youth Film Festival and Best Film at the Stars Hollywood Festival. His second short film, Together Apart (2019), also won awards at several festivals. She Sat There Like All Ordinary Ones (2024) is his first feature film and has been selected by Generation 14plus, Berlinale 2024.
