Synopsis

Scream (2023) begins with the conditions under which Kazakhs still have to deal with the nuclear testing ground that was established in Semey between 1949 and 1953 – not closed until the country’s independence in 1991. The film focuses on the coexistence of Mels, a man born without legs, and his son, Zhalgas. They both live in a small rural village next to a nuclear weapons testing facility. They and the inhabitants of other villages maintain, at first, a pacifist attitude, until it is discovered that the malformations and other health consequences of its inhabitants derive from these same nuclear tests, and from here the conflict breaks out.
